The past few days at home have been spent doing my favorite things with my favorite people. Being at college is fun and amazing and everything, but there is something about crawling into your own bed at night and embracing an old friend that cannot be replaced. I have been able to enjoy some down time and remember what life was like when things were simpler, before I was states away and a stressed out college student. It took some laughs and a few sunsets with good friends to make me remember why life is worth while.
A friend said to me the other day, "it's not about where you go or what you do, it's about who you are with." And that is probably the most accurate statement I have ever heard. It's funny how a friends laugh or a warm hug can make you feel like you are totally at home. I had that feeling when I was reunited with my friends these past few days. The thing is there doesn't have to be an elaborate get together or party, sometimes it's enough to just sit and enjoy each others company. The best people in the world are those who you can sit with in silence and feel completely comfortable.
Home is where your heart is full, your spirit is free, your laughter is loud, and your smile is wide. The people you choose to be with in life make all the difference in who you are and how you feel. There are those special people that you meet and you wonder how you ever survived without them, and after befriending them you know you could never live without them now. You meet these people and they become a part of you, and you are never the same after that.
When things get tough, home is where you go to make things make sense again. Home is where the people who love you are, not a place, but all of the memories and moments compiled together like bricks to form a home that you can take with you wherever you may go. Home is where the heart is, where you are welcomed with bright smiles and open arms. People so often think that life is about where you go and the destination, but life is really about the people you meet along the way.
I know that wherever I go in life I will always have people to call home. If you ever feel like you have lost direction, look for the people who will guide you out of the dark. Follow your heart and remember that home is never that far away. These people that make you feel alive, they are your friends for life, and they will always make you feel at home.
Where is your heart?
Love Always,
Olivia Jane
