Weekend lessons

5/31/2015

As the weekend comes to a close I am overwhelmed with the good times I had! Yesterday I went to see Lady Antebellum, Sam Hunt, and Hunter Hayes in concert and it was a total blast! I'm a huge Lady A fan and they killed it live, and I also have a slight crush on Hunter Hayes ;) Fun aside, I actually learned some major life lessons this weekend and I thought I would share!

Lesson #1: Don't settle for less than what you deserve. This one is super hard and it has taken me forever to realize. I believe that the way we treat our selves sets the tone for how other people treat us, and if you believe you don't deserve better than other people are going to believe the same thing. Don't ever settle for anything because you believe you don't deserve better, because you do. People are going to try to use you and treat you like crap, but only you have the power to realize you don't have to settle for that nonsense. Life is too short to settle for less than and mediocre, everyone deserves to get the best in life. Settling means you think you aren't worthy of anything better, which leads to self deprecation and misery, which no one deserves! The second you change the way you see your own worth you will never want to settle again because you know you deserve much, much better. Relationships, friendships, jobs, don't tolerate anything in your life that doesn't make you feel good, it's not worth it, because the only person it's going to hurt is you. I've realized I've been settling for far too long, and it is time for a change!

Lesson #2: Everything happens for a reason. I'm a believer that there are no such things as coincidences. At the concert last night this girls sunglasses fell off, so I picked them up and gave them back to her. We started chatting and immediately became BFF's! We felt like we were soul sisters and talked about how it must have been fate that we met. The rest of the night I hung out with my new BFF Jacqui and her fabulous friends! We all hit it off and they welcomed me into their group, and it made me think that some things are too perfect to be accidents. Life has a strange way of finding us exactly what we need at just the right time. Everyone you meet serves a purpose in your life, things fall apart so better things can come together, and things always seem to have a way of working out in the end. Good things happen to remind us of the simple pleasures in life, and tough times test our strength and we become better people because of it. I've learned to stop questioning the curveballs life throws at me and to just roll with the punches. Everything that happens in your life is just another puzzle piece in the grand scheme of life, and eventually they will all piece together. Good times, bad times, and everything in between all serve a purpose, and as soon as you learn everything happens for a reason life becomes a bit easier to understand.

Have you learned any lessons recently? I'd love to hear them! I'll put some concert pics below, there's truly no better way to kick off summer than a country concert! How was your weekend?

THE LAST HURRAH

Tonight I played my last high school sports game, later I will set my last high school alarm, I will go to sleep and wake up tomorrow morning for my last day as a high school student. That is honestly pretty surreal, it feels like just yesterday I was having snack time at pre school, and now I've completed senior year.

I feel like my whole life I've always counted on the fact that I will have more time, never thinking the clock would run out. But here I am, with merely hours left of a whole chapter of my life. That's the problem with time, you spend so much of it wishing it away, and then in the blink of an eye it's gone. To quote the great Dr. Seuss, "How did it get so late so soon?".

Though I've spent a lot of my high school days complaining about how miserable it was, now that it's all over I'm becoming a bit nostalgic. I'm a believer that every day and experience shapes you into the person you are going to be, and all things happen for a reason. The classrooms, halls, classmates, teachers, have all played a huge role in shaping me into the person I am today. High school is where everything happens for the first time, the joys, the friendships, the heartache, where we become the people we are supposed to be. You don't realize it in the moment, but looking back it is all so crystal clear. So many times that we all take for granted, just because we were promised we would have a million more, all coming to a sudden halt.

It's the last hurrah, every moment of the past 13 years has lead to this moment right here. The moral of the story is, appreciate the time you have when you have it, because all of the sudden life as you know it will flash right before your eyes. Don't be afraid when life as you know it ends, because there will always be something amazing around the corner. These last moments fill me with both joy and nostalgia, but looking back it has been one hell of a ride. You know, endings are always going to be a bit sad, even when there is something great to look forward to on the other side.

Here's to the end of one chapter, and the beginning of another!

How do you remember your high school days?

Soaking up the nice weather at Nauset Beach.
Hello! I don't know about you, but for me here on Cape Cod it's beginning to feel a lot like summer!

After the depressing, snow-filled winter, I had forgotten what summer felt like, until now! All of this nice weather has inspired me to create a summer bucket list! There are so many things I've been dying to do and see, so I thought I would share them with you!

Summer Bucket List 2015:
1. Go to all the local beaches! I always find myself falling into the same routine of going to the same two or three beaches every single summer. I live near some of my most gorgeous beaches, it would be a shame not to check them all out!
2. Bridge Jumping!

3. Bike Rides. Fun, scenic, and healthy!
4. Learn to do a Headstand! I have been wanting to learn forever, so this summer I hope to take the time and develop the strength to finally accomplish my goal! Namaste :)
5. DIY Project! For those of you who don't know me, I am the most artistically challenged person EVER, however with dorm decorating coming up I want to attempt some do it yourself projects! My roommate for next year is a total pro at this stuff, so I'm hoping to master it as well! Perhaps making a cork board out of wine corks!
6.Boating. Last summer I did not get to go on my boat a single time because I was always working, this summer I'm making it a goal to take some time to enjoy some lazy boat days :)
7.Work, Work, Work. Saving up money for college at my favorite summer job! This will be my first summer waitressing.

7. Night Swimming(may or may not including skinny dipping!)
8. Take pictures! This is my last summer before I go to college, in between high school friends and college placement tests, and I want to savor it all! My Canon Rebel will be my best friend this summer for sure!
9. Go to a concert! This is the highlight of every summer if you ask me. I will be attending 9 concerts this summer, the first one kicks off this weekend! Lots of country music, and I will also be seeing Taylor Swift (eek!)
10. Adventure. Go out and do something our of my comfort zone! You never know what you may stumble across just by saying "yes!"

Well, there you have it, my 2015 summer bucket list!! Maybe some of these will inspire you to add them or make your own list! What is on your bucket list? I'd love to hear! Happy Summer :)

Little me learning how to ride my bike :) and where my life philosophy began!
Hello! And welcome to my blog!! I hope to bring a sense of humor, heartfelt thoughts and advice, as well as entertainment to your days! I am about to begin a new chapter in my life, as I will (finally) be graduating high school in a little over a week, yay! This being said, I decided what better way to start this new journey than to blog!

My first post today is actually inspired by my journalism final today. My teacher had us read an article (I'll put the link at the bottom!), and write about our pace in life. I got inspired, I thought, what better way for readers to get to know me?! This is one of the most meaningful assignments I've ever written, and it is truly eye opening. So, here goes my first blog post!

When going through the motions day to day, I never really stop to notice the pace in which I’m living my life. Upon reflecting, I realize I live a very fast paced lifestyle, because my philosophy is that it is best to always keep moving. When I was learning to ride a bike my cousin always told me I could not fall if I just kept moving, so that is the mantra I've come to use in my daily life. If you keep moving amidst all of life’s tragedies and hardships, then nothing can pull you down.

I do not do well with mundane tasks and idle time, I like having my day filled with things to do and places to see. I would describe my pace as a sort of organized chaos, and I know this is contradictory so I’ll explain. My life is hectic and crazy, always running from school to practice, to work and then a party, and to an outsider it may appear as though I am a total mess, however somehow this fast paced lifestyle works for me. For this reason I've discovered I am a city girl at heart, which is why I will be going to college near New York City and intend on living there after college. The bustle of the city runs through my veins and reflects how I go about my life.

Recently, however I have discovered the beauty of slowing down and taking the time to enjoy the present moment. I am often so caught up taking the perfect instagram picture, or composing the funniest tweet, that I neglect the present moment. It’s so easy to go through your life without really living it, and what fun would that be?! Slowing down is not easy, especially for someone as high energy as me, but I have found ways to enjoy the little things.

Through practicing yoga I have started to realize that living a fast paced life is okay, as long as you give yourself time to slow down every once and a while. Though I have no where near mastered it, I am developing a happy medium between taking time to be present, and living the high speed life I enjoy. While I love my constant on the go lifestyle, I realized I was missing a key aspect in my pursuit of happiness, balance. In my mind, balance is the key to happiness and success.

So even though the thought of being stationary and slowing down sometimes seems unappealing, I have recognized that it is crucial to my well being, and am lucky enough to be able to have the best of both worlds. Whenever my organized chaos gets to be too much, I surrender to the peace of my yoga mat. And if I ever doubt the way I am living my life, I remember that it is just like learning to ride a bike, all you have to do is keep on moving.

I challenge you all to look within and see what your own pace is! I hope you get as much out of it as I did! Thank you for reading my very first blog post, and hope you read the many more to come!
